Camilla Collins hasn’t gone home in thirteen years. As much as she loves her family, their tiny hometown in the folds of the Colorado mountains holds too many memories. Memories of a life barely lived and a love barely realized. No matter how she thrives, AJ Jenkins is the man she compares all others too. He just so happens to be the one that broke her heart. Seeing him, seeing the life she might have had with him, has been a very convincing reason to celebrate the holidays in the Pacific Northwest, happy in the rain instead of the snow.
AJ Jenkins isn’t exactly bitter and frigid. It’s the below freezing temperatures, the knee deep snow, and the death of his chronically ill father dragging him down. That is until Cam Collins finally comes home for Christmas. After thirteen years, he’d almost given up on seeing her. And was incredibly happy about it. But thirteen is unlucky for a reason, and apparently that reason is still a klutzy, gorgeous, living memory determined to poke holes in his barely hanging on heart with death defying stilettos.
Chick and Brain Rating 4 out of 5 stars
I am not one for Christmas stories, but when this one popped up as available to read I jumped right on it. Anything written by Ace Gray is a guaranteed to be steamy goodness. Of Smoke and Cinnamon does not disappoint! It is a wonderful mix of a second chance romance and a good old fashion Christmas love story that anyone can enjoy.
Camilla Collins left her small town in Colorado as soon as she could. What she wasn’t planning on doing was leaving a piece of her heart behind. Camilla has always been in love with AJ Jenkins since the first day she laid eyes on him, but her plans to leave their small town held more appeal then staying with AJ. Camilla has made all of her dreams come true, so she has finally returned home to spend the holidays with her family. However, when she runs into AJ again sparks fly. All the heartache and pain of not being AJ first choice come back to haunt her, but she is unable to deny the pull they have toward one another. Will this time be different or are they both destined to think about what could have been for the rest of their lives?
AJ Jenkins had it all, until he found out his dad was sick. He had to make the hard choice of staying to take care of his family or following the girl he loved with all his heart as she followed her dreams. He never really had the chance to make that decision, because Camilla walked out of his life the day they graduated and never looked back. AJ has made a name for himself in their small town, but once he lays eyes on Camilla again everything means nothing to him. All he can focus on is the girl who got away.
Gray does an amazing job of giving us all the perfect combination of angst and sugary sweet goodness. Cam and AJ’s story is the perfect example of how wishes do come true on Christmas. This is the perfect Christmas read!
