Book Review: Legally Yours (Spitfire #1) by Nicole French

Goodreads Synopsis:

Skylar Ellen Crosby is a typical redhead: blunt, passionate, with a bit of a temper. Okay, so maybe she’s a little neurotic too. At the end of her third year at Harvard Law, all Skylar wants is to figure out her next steps: ones that will hopefully include a job, an apartment, and enough money to help her father stop getting into trouble. She simply has no room for romance, especially the kind that might break your heart. But on a dark, snowy night, when she’s stranded in the living room of the notorious CEO of Sterling Ventures and one of the best attorneys in Boston, her carefully constructed boundaries are about to be knocked down.

Brandon Sterling never believed in fate. A man of his own making, he firmly credits his successes to hard work. How else could you explain his rise from the poorest of backgrounds in South Boston to becoming one of the most successful entrepreneurs in Boston? Living in luxury in his big house on Beacon Street, it never mattered to him that increasing success meant increased isolation. After all, when you have everything, everyone else always wants something. But when he comes home to find a gorgeous redhead sitting on his windowsill, the idea of love at first sight suddenly seems like the most plausible thing in the world…if only the one person he wants to give his heart to would actually take it.

Together, Skylar and Brandon have the kind of passion few hope to find, but things keep getting in their way. Between school, business, her father’s gambling troubles and Brandon’s history of personal struggle, will their complicated lives prevent them from making it work together? Or, as they both suspect somewhere deep down, have they finally met their match in each other’s stubborn hearts?

NOTE: This book contains some steamy sexual content and is intended for readers over 18.

Chick and Brain Rating 4 out of 5

Let me start by saying that I am glad I did not read this BEFORE Book two was released! Cliffhangers are torture at best, but this one seriously rips my heart out. Nicole French is able to write amazing characters and create a story that we can all find ourselves becoming a part of. These characters worm their way into your hearts from word one. I can not say that I was in love with all of them from the start, but by the end of the story, I could not picture the story missing even one of them.

For lack of a better phrase, Brandon is an ass. He started with nothing and now has everything. He has not decided that he wants Skylar, and he will do anything he has to in order to get her. He is not used to woman who want nothing from him, but his love. He pulls out all the stops but that just seems to put more of a wedge between these two characters than ever. Brandon works tirelessly to break down Skylar’s wall to get to her heart and when he finally does, everything come crumbling down around them. Brandon refuses to give Skylar up without a fight, but how long can someone fight or chase someone who does not want to captured.

Skylar has had to work hard for everything she has been given. Her mother left her when she was younger, without looking back. It has been just her, her father, and grandmother for as long as she can remember. She was focused on obtaining her law degree and had no time for love or a serious relationship, that is until Brandon came into her life. She refuses to let him buy her affection. He must work to earn her trust and love, but that trust is easily broken when one misplaced fact is brought to light.

French writes two main characters who chemistry is off the charts. Most of the time we are wondering whether they want to sleep together or kill each other. This story is not just about the sexual attraction between two characters, but about all the aspects of love. The lazy days staying in, meeting friends for drinks, sharing all of your secrets. French show us how these two feel in love, and goes beyond the sexual chemistry between these two. We get to see the ups and downs of their relationship that can either make their love stronger or break them apart.  We are able to see what a real relationship between two head strong people would be like in real life.

Warning this book does end in a cliffhanger, but I never been so happy to see one in my life. French leaves us with a cliffhanger of hope. Hope that everything will be okay and that eventually despite all of their differences and fighting Brandon and Skylar will make it though.

Until next time,
