About Crimson Syn (in her own words!)

My name is Crimson Syn, not really, but what fun is it to use my real name. Instead I’ll use my inner goddess’ name, it’s much more fun that way. I grew up in New York City where I had a wonderful education, loving parents and awesome friends. What more could a girl ask for?
I started writing at the age of sixteen. The first romance I read was Stephanie Laurens’ Devil’s Bride. Since then I have been influenced by dozens of flourishing romance authors and even more dashing and daring rogues. I must say it, but Fifty Shades was not my first erotic romance, nor did it influence me to start writing them. If you’ve never read Mary Balogh, Elizabeth Hoyt, Lisa Kleypas, Bertrice Small or A.N. Roquelaure’s Sleeping Beauty trilogy, then you’re missing out. Those were my sweet introductions to erotic romance, and boy were they hot.
So here I am, after reading so many wonderful stories, I have too many sinful tales of my own not to share. I like my alphas rough and possessive, and I have no shame in saying it or writing it. I had delightfully wicked teachers growing up, their books took me to new worlds and brought me new loves. So, I want to do the same for you. I want to indulge my readers in those steamy reads that will send them into the arms of dangerous alphas and deliciously sexy rogues, without leaving the confines of their nice warm beds. If I am able to entice your inner goddesses, then I have done my job and I am satisfied.

Author Interview

What types of books do you enjoy in your downtime?

I love everything by Alexa Riley and Lauren Blakely. I have a particular taste for my dark erotica so Jade West and Nikki Sloane come into play sometimes. Usually, I just love a great book filled with hot sex, dirty alphas and smart, curvy women.

What started you on the path to writing for a living?

It happened very recently, I finally took that leap even though I have been wanting to publish a book for years. For years, romances from some of the greats like Judith McNaught, Bertrice Small and Stephanie Laurens, were what kept me up at night when I was growing up. Most recently I came across authors like Alexa Riley, Aria Cole and Jenika Snow who were a huge influence for me in getting started in the insta-love series, and I’m so grateful to have found their sexy stories.

I loved reading the short novellas so I decided, why not write one. I always loved to write and I had some short stories I was playing with. So, after getting a push from my brother I started to write, and when I was done I realized I had just found my niche within these naughty and smutty novellas I loved so much.

How did you come up with the idea for your book?

Believe it or not, my brother. He was watching a popular MC series and he was really into it, so he taught me about MCs and what they do and their different jobs, which is how the Hell’s Lovers MC began. Soon, I was doing my own research, and noticed MCs were a big thing in the book world. I had this idea for giving them a rival gang, and then it just flourished into something bigger and hotter. I go to my brother a lot for information on what gun I should use, or how he would interpret a fist or knife fight. It’s fun to get a male’s perspective on the rough side of things, it makes the danger more real.

What does a typical workday look like for you?

I actually have a nine to five office job in Human Resources. My sinful alter ego usually comes out to play around 6pm, since I like to write at night. Usually I get myself a nice glass of red wine, some mellow music and off I go into my MC world.

How do you deal with writer’s block?

I love to swim, so if I can’t think of anything to write I just forget about everything and I go to the pool. Hiking is another good option for me and I always carry a notepad everywhere I go. It’s funny, since I have a thinking shower so as soon as I’m under it all these ideas come flooding through and I find myself rushing to write them down. I even have a notepad on the shower wall which I just purchased and is totally cool.

What does your writing space look like?

I always look for somewhere quiet, usually a glass of wine is by my side and my dog at my feet.

Why do you write? What keeps you motivated during creative slumps?

I love to get lost in my made-up worlds and my delicious men. I live vicariously through my heroines and my sexier heroes. If I have a creative slump I don’t stress about it. My ideas always come to me right when I’m about to go to bed, sometimes when I’m listening to music or even at the beach. I just let my mind go blank and boom, I’m out of the slump.

If your novel were being made into a movie, whom would you pick to play the lead roles?

Wolf Stone, my sexy Hell’s Lovers Prez, would be played by Luke Evans without a doubt.

Scarlett Chase would be played by Kat Dennings, she’s curvy and confident.

Now for Grayson, our VP, the sexy Brant Daugherty is just too scrumptious to pass up.

Rahyne Andrews would probably be someone like Kelly Brook. Curvy, sweet and sassy.

Do you outline books ahead of time or are you more of a by-the-seat-of-your-pants writer?

I’m definitely a by-the-seat-of-your-pants kind of writer. Usually I let my characters personalities lead me.

What do you do in your free time when you aren’t writing?

I love travelling. It’s one of my favorite things to do. I’ve visited many parts of the US, Europe and Japan and I can’t wait for my next trip. I’m also a foodie, I love trying new restaurants with different themes. I enjoy getting engulfed by someone else’s culture.

Do you put yourself in your books/characters at all?

Yes! All the time. Some of those hot and steamy scenes require a nice hard drink and a lot of imagination. To be honest, I put myself in my readers’ shoes. What do they want to feel? What can I leave them with after they read my book?

What has been one of your most rewarding experiences as an author?

Having my first positive reviews was absolutely rewarding. Just learning that readers were actually enjoying my stories and loving my heroes was unbelievably exciting for me.

Out of all the books you’ve written, do you have a favorite?

So far I’ve written Wolf & Grayson in the Hell’s Lovers MC series and I have a soft spot for Wolf- he was my first. Coming up, I have to admit that Riggs and Cain are going to be very exciting to finish writing.

What are your top three favorite books of all time?

Of all time! That’s a tough one, I have so many:

  1. Whitney, My Love by Judith McNaught (She is magnanimous)
  2. Taking the Fall Series by Alexa Riley (I think I read it three times.)
  3. Mister O by Lauren Blakely (Ms. Blakely wrote my ideal man)

If someone is brand new to your work, what book do you think they should start with?

Definitely start with Wolf, he’s the first in the Hell’s Lovers MC series and the book sets the tone for where I’m headed. I’m excited to say I have a fairy tale series coming out this Fall and I’m definitely expanding some of those MC stories into the Death Row Shooters MC and the Fallen Kings MC which you’ll get to meet later on. It’s an exciting journey and I’m so glad you all want to be a part of it with me.
