Author Spotlight – Michelle Dare

I could not be more excited for my first author spotlight to be with anyone other than Michelle Dare! Michelle’s new books Where I End went live today and let me just tell you, it is simply amazing! As if there was any doubt! I came across Michelle during an author take over of the release of Harloe Rae’s new book and instantly feel in love with her writing!

Michelle Dare is a romance author. Her stories range from sweet to sinful and from new adult to fantasy. There aren’t enough hours in the day for her to write all of the story ideas in her head. When not writing or reading, she’s a wife and mom living in eastern Pennsylvania. One day she hopes to be writing from a beach where she will never have to see snow or be cold again.

So now time for the good stuff….the Q&A!

1. What types of books do you enjoy in your downtime?

I read mainly romance. One of my favorites is love triangles. I can’t get enough of them!

2. What started you on the path to writing for a living?

It started with me getting back into reading again by reading FSOG. After that, I started blogging and then became an author.

3. How did you come up with the idea for your book?

Where I End came from a dream. I dream a lot of my story ideas and some just stick. Once Cy got in my head, he wouldn’t leave until his story was told.

4. What does a typical workday look like for you?

I’m a mom of a seven-year-old and a four-year-old. I also have a puppy. My hands are full. I work whenever I can squeeze time in between taking care of my family. I don’t have a set schedule. It’s more of a go with the flow kind of thing.

5. How do you deal with writer’s block?

I focus on something else or take a shower. I don’t know why, but I get the best ideas when I’m in the shower.

6.What does your writing space look like?

Most of the time I sit on the couch with my laptop or alphasmart on my lap. I do have a great office, but every time I go in there to write, the kids follow me lol.

7. Why do you write? What keeps you motivated during creative slumps?

I write because I love doing it. Because I have characters in my head begging to have their stories told. I write because it’s a passion of mine and every day am thankful I get to do it.

8. If your novel were being made into a movie, whom would you pick to play the lead roles?

Oh, that’s a tough one. I honestly have no idea. I’d have to think about that one since there are so many amazing actors and actresses out there.

9. Do you outline books ahead of time or are you more of a by-the-seat-of-your-pants writer?

No, I don’t outline. I’m a total shoot from the hip kind of writer. My characters drive the stories and they often pull me in directions I don’t expect.

10.What do you do in your free time when you aren’t writing?

I spend all of my free time with my family. However, when the house is quiet and everyone is in bed, I love to read.

11.Do you put yourself in your books/characters at all?

Yes, I try to put a tiny bit of myself in my books.

12. What has been one of your most rewarding experiences as an author?

Anytime a reader messages me and says that my book has touched them, that’s the best feeling. I love knowing people enjoy my books.

13. Out of all the books you’ve written, do you have a favorite?

No, that would be like picking a favorite child lol.

14. What are your top three favorite books of all time?

There is no way I could pick just three. I have a ton of favorites.

15. If someone is brand new to your work, what book do you think they should start with?

They could start with Where I End or Daylight Follows since they are both standalones.

Thanks so much Michelle for taking the time to answer all of my questions, but don’t forget to let us know about #7. I really want to know what actors you would choose.
